What are Mudras and How Can They Help You?

Mudras are an ally to your meditation practice, here is how:

If you have decided to take a lifestyle that prioritizes your well-being and are looking to build a spiritually supportive routine, you want to make sure you build a solid foundation with many elements that hold you while on the mat, and come with you when you are outside of it. Mudras are an on-the-mat ally.

Just like you place your body in specific ways when doing yoga, you can do something similar with your fingers (and eyes, but let's leave that one for later) In fact, Yoga asanas are a kind of mudra. Our hands are important conductors of thermal energy through touch, this is scientific knowledge, and equally, they are important conductors of pranic energy, a subtler energy that moves within your system.

Placing your fingers in specific positions redirects pranic energy in your body. When you are meditating, you have the space to notice its flow, and when you add a mudra to your practice, you are enhancing this flow to benefit specific areas within you. When you support your system energetically, two things will happen: you may feel an improvement in bodily functions. Still, most importantly, you are helping the body deepen your ability to stay tuned to,(like a well-placed antenna) and be able to relax in the glory of stillness, which is the cleansing of all overthinking and a source of clarity and strength.

Proper pranic flow is important to feel grounded, creative, empowered, and most importantly, at ease. I don't have to name all the ways in which we come off balance in our current lifestyle, but I can tell you that, millennia ago, people of deep concentration and knowledge understood the mechanics of life force and passed these down to those who seek inner knowledge. Mudras, like other yogic practices, are effective at supporting your ability to meditate and your body to function properly. All you have to do is practice them with care, respect, and your full attention.
